Zmodo Outdoor Security Camera Wireless was uniform when storing the recording. We were given 12 hours of storage for free by Zmodo, but we didn’t think that was enough if we didn’t have time to download our clips and back them up.
We upgraded our storage plan to a week of cloud storage for only $4.99 a month, but it would have been cheaper if we signed up for a year.
We chose a set of image clips we liked, downloaded them to our mobile device, and later transferred them to our computer.

There wasn’t anything wrong with the indoor security camera since there wasn’t much going on in the apartment when we were away.
Our security cameras work fine during the day, but they weren’t as effective as we would have liked for night surveillance. It’s so noisy in NYC that the notifications weren’t always necessary, even when I was at home.
We hope at least some of their cameras give human being detection like the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, meaning we only get alerts when a real human is detected. However, facing a more comfortable environment may not be as big of a problem.
The Zmodo Application
You don’t have to worry about the specific model of Zmodo camera you want to buy, because we use the Zmodo app to control it remotely, available for iOS and Android phones.
We were surprised by how much better the Android version worked. The lag was noticeable, but the notifications are much more reliable. I was able to see old footage on this application.
Schedules
The city that never sleeps applies to us because we live in NYC. Remembering to arm and disarm security cameras in the morning and evening when you run to catch the subway can be hard.
We can’t help but notice that you’ve been setting all of Zmodo’s security cameras to link/disarm while you leave for work every morning at 8:30 AM and disarm when you get home around 7:30 PM.
Of course, we stayed a little longer at the gym today. We went into the Zmodo app and made adjustments so that our cameras would stay armed for a bit longer, but for most days, our schedules made it easy to keep our apartment safe with minimal effort.
How Zmodo Outdoor Security Camera Wireless Differ
Now, we discuss the main features.
Motion zones are an excellent way to reduce the false notifications you receive on your outdoor security camera system. In the Zmodo app, we drew a line between the area, the sidewalk, and the street. Now that we have our actual property, we can only receive notification of movement from the property we own or the actual front yard.
Notifications are often distracting because they come in a stream all day, and you get distracted by the constant stream of alerts. Motion Zones lets you set up rules for who gets to bother you and when.
Some of Zmodo’s security cameras had this feature, and we were glad that most of them did. We just found it interesting that there was no mention of the feature in their review.
Smart Home Integrations
Smart security cameras are useless without a voice assistant to help you set them up.
We tested out the whole lineup of Zmodo security cameras, except for the Dome camera and the Torch 360, and those two work with Amazon Alexa.
Alexa’s skills were attractively limited, although we could tell the voice assistant to display our cameras’ footage on the Echo Show, which was beautiful.
As I’ve worked with our customers to help them stop their data streams, I find that using Alexa to do it for them is incredibly effective, even if they don’t understand exactly how it works.
However, using Alexa to arm or disarm cameras wasn’t possible. **You will need to train these using Amazon’s developer program.
We wanted a Google Home device that could serve as an entertainment hub, so we installed our Nest Hub. It’s a great device with all of the same capabilities, plus it serves as a hub for our other devices, like our smart speakers.

Our Advice: We don’t think they should have an Amazon app or a Google app, but if they do, we recommend using them for more hands-on activities. That’s because of how the Alexa and Google Assistant apps work.
Two-Way Audio
Security cameras that have built-in audio capabilities are becoming more popular. They allow homeowners to hear what’s happening inside and outside their homes.
When it comes to outdoor security camera solutions, there are always exceptions.
All the other security cameras that we had made us look like a bunch of idiots when we got home, and the house sitter wasn’t there, and we couldn’t get into the house.
Since we received so many deliveries throughout the day, it was convenient to be notified when the delivery men stopped by.
We can chat with them and get their opinion on where to place our goods.
Night Vision
Zmodo’s security cameras have infrared night vision, except for the Torch 360, perhaps their most unique camera, which has color night vision.
Night vision is a way to record videos or take photos in low light conditions. Black-and-white recordings are the standard, but infrared allows you to see in darker conditions than before, such as at night or inside.
With the Torch 360, we got a nice view of the night because the camera’s bright bulb was full-color.
While the idea of having a camera and a flashlight in one might seem cool, we learned that the light only made the camera more noticeable, making it more likely to be broken or even stolen.
We prefer motion-sensing home security systems that are invisible to the human eye but will trigger a response from our network of sensors when a person or animal triggers the system.
Video Quality
This is a video-quality camera and not a video game from the 1980s; we want clear and not super pixelated footage.
Unfortunately, it took us a while to learn that we were seeing an entirely different video feed, even though the camera was mounted right on top of the camera.
Of course, they would have also seen us, but the security cameras with 1080p HD displays had more detail.
Field of View
I couldn’t get the video quality to be as good on our Zmodo security cameras as on their base stations. They also have wildly different fields of view.
The field of view for this camera should be at least 120 degrees and ideally 140 or more, or else you’ll end up with a very narrow field of view.
The Sight 180 Security Cameras are designed for use in wide-open areas. They are best suited for outdoor use or access to open space.
That’s as large as possible (without regard to security cameras).
If the Zmodo Snap PT review, the Zmodo Torch 360, and the Zmodo Pivot Cloud don’t reflect the field of view, what does?
The only indoor/outdoor cameras that allowed us to see what we needed were the HD indoor/outdoor WiFi camera and the 720p indoor dome camera.
We decided to put in more cameras per room to improve our coverage and provide the best content for our viewers.
Power
Zmodo was very smart about powering its security cameras. We plugged in about half of them and powered the other half by battery. We also plugged in the 1080p HD indoor/outdoor WiFi security camera, the view 180 cameras, and the torch 360.
We found the best laptops are the ones with no wire. If you want to leave your desk to go to the bathroom, you can disconnect and re-attach your laptop without worrying about the mess.
So, fitting was simplified, but we’ll get to that later.
Durability

When this device is used outdoors, it should be completely enclosed. Otherwise, it may be a fire hazard.
Zmodo only sells most of its outdoor cameras in large packages, which is not the best place to buy them.
While Zmodo’s systems are a little more expensive, they have many different ways for you to add new features, such as motion detection, remote zoom, and security. These additional features will save you money in the long run because you’ll need to purchase fewer systems over time.

Yes, the 360, the Sight 180, and the Snap PT can all turn completely around, making the setup of those units much more versatile; we weren’t as joined to their fields of view, so we had more freedom with where we could place them.
On top of that, the Snap PT was to some degree angled; however, it was just 15 degrees, which was negligible.

This was helpful for me, useful for my business, and the sensors were all wireless and connected to the Zmodo app, allowing me to get alerts.
Environmental Monitoring
The pivot cloud gave our customers a window to our business, so we could see what was happening at every location and in the back office. In addition to this surprising data, it also provided information about the temperature and moisture intensity.
You need a better camera if you’re serious about environmental monitoring, which is why the Canary indoor camera is the only one we’ve reviewed with built-in environmental monitoring.

When we didn’t feel like creating our themes, we turned to the premade options in the Zmodo app, and we could even put the bulb on schedules so it wouldn’t waste power during the daytime. We have not seen any other security cameras fitting in a torchlight, so this was a good option.
